Many people often erroneously think that health is the only reason for normal people playing sports and ignore its educational value for one’s entire life. I strongly believe that people get important lessons about their life by playing sports. The rationale behind this is that sports game teaches people the importance of an individual’s commitment, patience, discipline as well as his relationships with others and teamwork.
First, playing sports teaches the importance of an individual’s effort to achieve his goal. In many sports games, a player should practice a lot to achieve a goal. Without discipline, patience and passion for the goal, any player in any sports is not able to make any improvement, needless to say that he cannot achieve his goal. This is same as any field of life, especially in this competitive era. From my experience, I used to swim regularly when I was a freshman in college. At that time, I practiced almost every day to make improvement. If I missed practices, then I hardly break the previous record. This experience has taught me the importance of integrity, practice and making effort to achieve whatever I want.
Also, people are able to learn about the importance of teamwork and social relationships. In many team sports games, every player in one team are required to understand each position and the strategy of their team for win. In this learning process, they naturally learn how to cooperate, communicate with teammates for the win. To illustrate, many ive league universities encourage their students to participate in team sports such as rugby. It is because the universities recognize that the students can learn about social relationships as they play rugby with their colleagues.
Since sports game and life has a lot in common, people can learn important lessons about life such as an individual’s effort as well as social relationships. Certainly, people get more than physical health from playing sports. |
