▶ Your Answer : In the reading passage, there is ample support to the author‘s claim that mandatory music classes have a couple of problems. However, the professor in the lecture gives several reasons as rebuttal to this point.
To begin with, the professor insists that music class can help students to prepare their careers. According to the recent survey, most CEO took the music classes in their high school so they could success succeed in their life and found their careers more easily. Also, mandatory music class can help students to enhance their academic performance in other subjects. The professor’s claim casts doubt on the author’s suggestion that mandatory music class does not prepare student’s career in the real world. Music is unrelated field with their careers. So it’s waste of their time. Moreover, the professor argues that grading in music classes is fair because grading system is based on several factors such as understanding of the students, their attendances, attitudes. The music score is not only estimated by their talents but also estimated by these objective factors. Therefore, the professor says that mandatory music education can not prevent ungifted students from entering a top university. Those students who have not natural musical talents cannot receive low marks. This counters the author’s suggestion in the reading passage that grading in music classes is unfair for students who lack musical talents. All things considered, the professor strongly contends that mandatory music education is beneficial to students.
