It is often said that today's people are too absorbent in their pets. Some people think like this because pets are sometimes bother others. However, in my opinion, treating pets as a family member is a good tendency. There are two major reasons: it prevents loneliness and it builds childrens' sense of responsibility. To begin with, by breeding pets with true love, people can feel secure. Of course, those who hate dogs or cats might say that pets bother themselves by barking and running around. However, in fact, raising more than one pets are actually beneficial for humans' mental health. In this modern competitive society, many people cannot feel real affection to others. Especially elders, who are not with family members, can gain mental security by living with pets. To demonstrate, according to a study conducted by Seoul National University in 2007, 75% seniors in Seoul who raise more than one pet is much less likely to get hyphchondria, which is the main reason for suicide. This demonstrates the importance of pets to elder people's mental fitness. In addition, It is through living with pets that children can easily establish a sense of responsibility. It is common that a child with no siblings is unlikely to be understanding and mature than childern with brother or sister. In fact, dogs can be a good younger brother or sister for childern without any siblings. For example, in my experience, I did not have any brothers or sisters and parents worried about my rude attitude and lack of understanding toward others. However, after raising a dog, named"pepe", my behavior was significantly changed. By feeding and washing pepe, I could understand how my parents had a hard time bringing me up as well as how to take care of others. In brief, I strongly believe that it is beneficial for people to consider thier pets a member of family. Not only can it relieve elders lonliness and depression but also it can help children become more responsible. Thses benefits cannot be underestimated to live in this modern society. |
