[Topic] It is more important for teachers to help students gain self-confidence than specific knowledge. |
- Strong self-confidence demonstrates the potential possibility of one person. - The role of teachers is not just teaching of specific knowledge but of motivating students’ possibilities. For as long as I can remember, people have been debating the pros and cons of the statement that teachers are required to teach their students of self-confidence instead of specific knowledge. From my personal experience, I strongly agree with the above statement for the following two reasons. My two main points are as follows: strong self-confidence demonstrates the potential possibility of one person as well as the role of teachers is not just teaching of specific knowledge but of motivating students’ possibilities. To begin with, robust self-confidence means the potential development possibility of the students. Nowadays, many different kinds of jobs have been professionalized than before, and thus people are required to get suffice knowledge of field to land a job. However, even though someone has sufficient knowledge of specific field, he cannot go up the society ladder if he does not have strong self-esteem. Thus, embracing steadfast self-respect is more important than knowing more of specific subject. To illustrate, take Steven Jobs, the head of the Apple-computer, as an example. He used to be not exemplary students when he was in high school. That is to say, he was not that good at his school tasks, such as mathematics and sciences. Even worse, sometimes, his teachers warn him to be expelled or suspended if he would not change his attitude to be more passionate on school works. However, although his is not that excellent at getting and memorizing the knowledge provided from school, he had always been proud of himself since he acknowledged his possibility as a computer programmer and never lost his self-confidence. And finally and apparently, he became the chief of one of the most influential computer company in the world. Thus, there is no doubt that strong self-esteem is more critical than exploring certain knowledge. Furthermore, the role of teachers is not just for teaching specific knowledge but for encouraging students’ lament power to be developed. Some people might assert that student should have detailed and organized knowledge to get higher paid occupations. However, if teachers only teach their students about the knowledge, students may not see the world depend on their specialties. Thus, what teachers should do is not for the specific knowledge of subjects but for the widening the horizon’s of students. According to a survey of recently released by the Korean National Research Center, more than two thirds of the surveyed CEO of the top 100 companies of the Korea responded that the motivation of their success is from the teacher who had encouraged and incited them when they were students who could not fully understand their abilities. They also mentioned that teachers’ helps were really more than nothing since it lead them into the right direction where they can be higher position in this bleak modern society. Thus, we can definitely acclaim that the teachers are who asked for broaden the point of view of students rather than convey the knowledge and information. In this context, we have been witnessed that what we should focus on is how self-confidence is critical to one’s improvement which offering by the prospective teachers and students. In brief, encouraging self-confidence needs to be considered positively in terms of promoting students’ capability and development. Strong self-respect shows the potential possibility of one student as well as the role of teachers is not just offering of specific knowledge but of encouraging students’ self-confidence. In general, I wholeheartedly, believe that the very first thing we should do now is admitting the importance of the self-confidence as the corner stone of the open the door of our future.
