Nowadays many people worry that people tend to spend too much time on what they want to do rather than what they should do. However, I am strongly against this idea for two reasons: The strict competitiveness in the modern society and the social trend which put the emphasis on economic value make people the less interested in what they want to do and the more desperate on what they should do.
To begin with, in this rapidly growing and incresingly competing society, people spend more time on self-improvement for a better chance in job markets and their survival in the work place. It is obvious that people desire to live a secure life, and manily this can be done by cash through their vocations. In the past, there were not so much competition because of scarcity of labor force. Needless to say in the experts. On the otherhand, there is much cutthroat competition in today. Thus, People don't have enough time to enjoy what they want to do in today.
According to the recent survey conducted by Ministry of education in 2007, businessmen in Korea spend at least 2 hours a day for self-improvement; such as foreign language, computer software, and study for a government certificate.
This implies that they have to keep in touch with new skills and knowledge for their competitiveness and by doing that They can sustain their stable situation in workplace.
Moreover, the social trend which evaluate the wealth influences people more to spend much time on what they should do.
It is not always true that people can improve their job oppoutuinty and accomplish high salary by doing what they should do, but it will give them more chances and increase probability.
A good example of this is that my brother in Samsung Electronics who got early promotion because of his regular research on weekends. Although coworkers in the same company spent their time enjoying their hobbies, my brother kept doing research due to his ambition to get incentive following by success in research. Finally he succeeded in his investigation, and accomplished his goal : promotion and plentiful bonus.
In brief, apparently there seems to be many people absorbed in what they want to do such as on-line games and comic books.
However, the most urgent motivation such as survival in work place and stability in home economy leads people to be more obessed with what they should do. Simply people in today don't have enought time to relinquis due to the competition, and the society which enforce competition.
