Some people say television has left family members unable to communicate with one another. do you agree or disagree with that statement? use specific examples and reasons to explain your opinion. |
In this modern society, television's influence to people is considerable, and this attracted a number of researchers to investigate how television influence in family life. Many research's results state that television make family members less talkative. However, I disagree with the results since it is not very conclusive. It is often said that television make the family members less communicative. It is true sometimes, but not always. There are many other factors are related with the reasons why long-time television watchers are seemingly introspective. First, they can be introvert since they were born. Since no one knows the participants for the research were not introverts with a natural character of them, the researches about this are not reliable. Also, many people watch television when they have nothing to do or after they fought with someone. They watch television as an escape of their rutine lives. In this sense, It is not television who make those people less communicative, but are ennui and other members of the family. Also, television gives people topics to talk about. This increases the amount of communications and make the communication more interesting. I had an experience which is suitable as an example for this. I am back in high school, it was a recess before the history class. My classmate and I suddenly started to talk about the korean historic drama which all of us had watched the day before. We were really interested in that, but there were something we could not understand. The recess time was ended, the bell ringing, the teacher comming in. Then we started to ask people about the things we could not understand. We could talk about it because the teacher was going to lecture about the part of Korean history, and since it was something we want to know and do not know, we were really interested in it. It made us not only more talkative, but also more excited in studying. The simular situation can occur when it is dinner time for the family. The family can communicate about the day's news and the stars they saw on television. Researches which tell people that televesion effects people as making them unable to communicate are not easily believable, and television can give alive topics to talk. Of course, there are also bad influnces, too. We should try to reduce the bad ones and improve the advantageous effects of television. |
