In the modern society, especially, since after the industrial revolution, societies have required people to do many things regardless of fields. Due to this trend, many people have lived so busy in doing many things that, today, people face the argument as to whether the more people try to be versatile in every field with busy life, the less specialized ability they have. Although some people might say that since a fast-paced society requires people to do many things well, they will have more specialized skills, as far as I know, having to deal with many different things, they cannot have their own specialized skills. In this essay, I will briefly present two reasons to support my assertion.
To begin with, since the more time passes, the more technology is developed, people will have to learn newly-invented technologies. To be specific, with the introduction of new techonogies, people cannot help throwing the old-fashioned technology and learning the skill of new technologies spending a lot of time. As from my experience, when I worked in a company as an intern, due to the introduction of new technology in the assembly line, the company changed the obsolete machine into the new one, so most workers had to learn the way of controlling the new machine. That is, new technologies deprive people of time for them to learn other skills.
Secondly, since the busy society requires people to be versatile, it is likely to bring about side effects. Specifically, people, living in the fast-paced and busy society, have the consciousness of versatility, which might cause people to feel pressure. According to a research conducted in recently, 85percent of people feel that they should deal with everything, so they cannot help doing a lot of things superficially. As this survey show, the more new things are tried, the more side-effects occur.
To summarize, taking all these factore and a reliable survey, we can easily reach the conclusion that as time passes by, people cannot do many things well. |
