Most people think that exams only cause the competition among the students who want to get a higher grades. However, I strongly believe that exams are the most useful tools because exams encourage students to pay attention to the lecture and force students to review some materials that learned in the classes.
To begin with, exams allow students to concentrate on their lectures, due to(~하기때문에?) getting good grades. Many students get a low grade because they do not pay attention to their teachers in the lecture. My elder sister can be an example, /when she was first grade in middle school, she really wanted to go to the college, Seoul national University, the best university in Korea, so she must do well in exams. For this reason, she always concentrated on the lecture and actively took part in student’s discussion. Also, if she had some questions, she asked goes to his academic advisor for explanation. By doing so, she got a good point in at school and went to the major college in Korea.
Furthermore, exams force students to review previous lessons in order to improve and maintain their understanding of the subject. To get a good grade in the exam, reviewing the lecture is mandatory to students. For example, when I was a freshman in college, I failed the exam. This is because I didn’t review the materials learned from lectures and only played with(hung out with) my friends. In the end, I got “F” grade on some courses which were hard for me to fill up the credits in during the summer semester. >>which made it difficult to catch up some credits I had missed...I took had a very hard time to take a course in the hot summer. If I had worked hard enough from the beginning, first time, I would not have a difficulty to attend a class. After this, I usually listen carefully to professor’s lectures carefully and do well in exams.
In short, some people argue that exams have some negative effect to students. However, exams encourage students to more pay more attention to lectures and review course’s materials they learned. For these reasons, the exams are an important tool for academic purpose. |
