The best way to learn about life is by listening to the advice of friends and family. |
In this fast changing world, our ego and characteristics have been stronger than ever before. This is because if we do not have any color and voice in our society, we are likely to lose the competition in real world. Therefore, many people follow their own ways rather than accepting others' thoughts. However, I think advice, especially from my close friends or family, is really important. The reasoning behind this is that they have objective opinions, while we tend to become subjective in terms of our own matters, and some of them, parents or uncles, have more experiences, giving valuable lessons. To begin with, our friends or family offer us more objective opinion when it comes to our private matters, because they are the people who know us very well. Sometimes we are apt to make wrong decisions, due to our stubbornness. In other words, we do not hear other peoples' opinions, because sometimes we think that our decisions are always right. To illustrate, after finishing my military service, I decided to operate a small business to sell Korean style foods in my country. However, many of my friends were strongly against my idea, because they thought that the items were not brilliant enough to satisfy customers not to mention its out-dated style. Ignoring the advices, I invested a lot of time and money for that small restaurant. Unfortunately, my judgement turned out to be at the wrong side. If I had carefully listened to my friends' opinions, I would have avoided the failure. In addition, those near us might have gone through more experiences than we have had. As a senior in life experience, either family members or a boss at the work place can give great helps when we are faced with imperative dilemas. They have already had similar problems when they were at that age. My father, for example, gave me a lot of tips, when I had trouble choosing university. At that time, I wondered that which University and department was right choice for my future. My father talked about his experience and what our society expects from us. Discussing the matter with him, I was able to broaden my eyes to real society. Eventually, I decided to join Environment Engineering department, which fitted into my interest and helped finding jobs later. Thanks to his valuable advice, I could easily get on to the right tract of my life. In conclusion, I strongly believe that listening to advices from close friends and family teaches us many valuable lessons, leading us to right path. This is because they have more objective view points and can give us many helpful counsels as seniors who already went through the process we are in. |
