University athletic departments should receive the same amount of funding as university libraries |
Some claim that universities should invest as much funds as possible to improve libraries. In contrast, others argue that athletic departments are as important as schools' libraries, thus, should receive same amount of funding. In my opinion, I definitely agree with the latter since sports and other physical activities maintain students' health as well as making them more socialized.
To begin with, students can enhance their physical health. Since regular exercises make bones and muscles strong, students can have strong and healthy body by taking classes that are related with physical activities or joining sports at school. The best illustration is my personal experiences from PE class. Since the class required students to engage in daily runs, traning, and other sport activities, I made muscles and reduced fats. Not only that, but also I felt lighter and actively participated to other classes.
Furthermore, students can improve their social skills. In other words, sports give students a chance to interact, cooperate, and collectively participate in activities with others. For example, I became more active person after engaging in school's soccer team. Due to my shy and passive personality, my team lost in the first soccer game. However, by continuous training and my efforts to interact with others, I was able change my personality to be more active and brave. If it were not for school's sport team, I might have difficulties being socialized with people.
To sum up, university athletic departments should receive the same amount of funding as libraries because of their benefits to students. While sports provide students physical health and social skills, students tend to miss the chance and focus on only studying.
