▶ Your Answer :
Some people believe that the ability to maintain friendships with a small number of people over a long period of time is more important for happiness. There are obviously many opinions regarding this topic, but it is clear that the ability to make many friends easily is more important for happiness. The concept of motivation and a job shows this theme.
First of all, making many friends readily can increase people's motivation in life. This is mainly because the people who have a good ability to make many friends usually have a large network with various people such as an expert in a certain field. Getting along with them, they can learn about new field such as painting or music and it will affect them to be eager to learn more. For instance, my bother was very poor at speaking English and had no interest about other countries. However, he has changed little by little since he started to make new friends from different countries. To communicate with them, he did his best to learn English and studied other countries' cultures like common etiquette. As the a result, he could broaden his perspective about the global world and make other new friends. Moreover, he is really enjoying his life and trying to learn other languages with fun by keeping to meeting new friends so far. If he were the person who liked to meet just a few friends for long time, it would not have been happened.
In addition, the ability to make many friends easily allows one to be happy not only limited in private life, but in life at work as well. This is because employees should meet different people as co-workers or business partners and today's companies are looking for people having such qualities since the ability is able to shine on company's business meeting. For example, my father, the CEO of a company in Korean often tells me that a job interview typically precedes the hiring decision. He and other interviewers at the interview mainly look at the applicant's passion and socialization which is the ability to get along with others since they are very essential skills for business and office life. In this sense, the person who is good at making new friends is more likely to get a job or make progress at work rather than people who like to meet among just old friends, and this will make him to be happier and satisfied more about their lives.
In conclusion, it seems to be that having the ability to make new friends easily is better than the ability to keep friendship just among a few people. The examples of motivation (motivation for what?) and career (=higher chance of getting a job) support the argument. |
