Economists view money as a measurement of value for scarcity. Under this definition the more scarce the resources are, the more you pay for them because you evaluate them higher. Some believe that this simple line of reasoning can also be applied to the value of job. In my opinion, it is not convincing in the light of more persuasive argument that people choose their jobs considering not only the money but also the other factors such as satisfaction, interests and so on.
First of all, besides money there are various important criteria that you can count on while choosing a job. Admittedly, some of factors can be calculated by money but I believe that some still can not be. How we can have a objective measurement to value our satisfaction? Is it really possible to say a person who earn $1 million a year is 100 times happier than a person who earn $10000 a year? Many believe that some factors, especially related with mental value, can not be objectively reflected by money. For instance, Albert Schweitzer was a doctor who devoted himself for the poor in Africa. Unlike other doctors, considered one of the most high-paid job until now, He didn't make enough money from his job. However, in his biography, he stated his job helping those in need was one of the best choice in his life. As his confession shows, Money is not the only and objective measurement to value a job.
In addition, following only money can sometimes disrupt your future career. Money should be rather outcome of working for a job than the purpose. That's because if you stress too much on the salary you cannot motivated by other factors such as self-satisfaction, sheer excitement of process of the work, and relationships among coworkers that can allow us to be a better performer in the field. Here's a study reflecting the phenomenon. According to the research conducted by Seoul National University, up to 70% of CEO of 50 companies in Korea valued such things more than the salary. As they can be considered as good performer in those companies, we could be able to translate the result as a sign that focusing on money too much could distract to show high performance in the long term.
In conclusion, valuing money the most when you choose a job is not able be justified in the aspect of economics and psychology. The Bible says, "people who loves money too much can not be seduced by evil with great ease". This verse implicitly warns us not to solely focus on money. I believe that the moment we choose a job can not be an exception.
