In this era of high technology, experts create incredible inventions beyond the public's imagination. The chances of plausibility of students studying at home may seem promising due to technological development. However, negative effects such as lack of opportunity of learning essential skills and health issues are dominating rather than convenience.
First of all, students need social interaction with friends, seniors and teachers in order to develop social skills. Through forming intimate relationship, being faced with conflicts and learning the way to respect each other gradually transform them into mature and stronger young adults. Participating in various activities such as debate, public speaking and sports as an individual or a team naturally teaches them the importance of responsibility and cooperation. Throughout the high school year, students grow as seniors representing the school. They are now in charge of caring, leading and uniting the junior students which instill leadership skills. These cases clearly demonstrate crucial skills acquired by students merely through attending traditional schools.
Moreover, health issues that are already triggered by attractive features of indoor entertainment will worsen. One of the critical issues is obesity. According to a research conducted by a health authority reports that 45% of Australian teenagers suffer from obesity. Home education is incapable of providing proper physical education which will drastically reduce the time to exercise that has been already reduced. Students need supervisors who may sometimes force to complete a certain period of time of sports. Home education may provide videos of instructors exercising but no way to check on students whether they are actually following the steps instructed by the video. In addition, cooperative team sports such as basketball and soccer cannot be prepared
In conclusion, while home education might bring students' convenience and increased free time due to no time to devote in travelling to school, it provokes critical issues related to both mental and physical health. Tradition schools contain significant factors that cannot be replaced by high technologies.
