College is a major part of our lives and remains important. Among other things, people attend college to gain knowledge, to learn a means of survival, and to pursue a passion or interests.
Great minds gather at universities to further studies in a variety of subjects. By the research and education of scholars, knowledge is often honed and developed in a university. From early in history, philosophers like Socrates and Plato have taught students to be enlightened, enabling them to have more deep and meaningful lives. However, books and pieces of knowledge were scattered, mostly unorganized, and it was difficult to find knowledge about a certain subject and to seek truth. The foundation of school made learning possible more efficiently and more deliberately. As a society matured, it needed a place to pursue higher education, hence a university. It is a place where knowledge is concentrated so that people have easier access.
The realistic aspect of attending college today is that it is a key to finding a decent job. Though not all, but statistics consistently show in staggering percentages that people who have a college diploma earn higher salaries and they given more opportunities at life. People need to make a living and no way is there to guarantee that they make a living better than to attend college and take classes. College education may have been an option, or a luxury, in the past, but it is now, to most people, almost a certificate for survival and a key to getting a job. To quote from the famous Bill Gates, one would be foolish "to expect a wage higher than $10,000 without a college diploma." In order to live a life and to put the bread on the table, people seek education that grants something like a bachelor's degree.
A better life does not always mean earnings and salaries. Some people value where their true passions lie. A univiersity offers a setting for them to pursue what they love to do and study more about. Scholars and students can enrich life by participating in research and sharing information and interests about what they know about their subjects. By sharing knowledge, people can develop better theses and relationships among those who have similar interests. Therefore, it can be a place of fun and collaboration for people by working together, resulting in better results and new findings.
In conclusion, college provides more than just a diploma. It provides to people opportunities at knowledge, truth, qualifications, collaboration, interests and passion. People can better prepare for career by studying what they love to do.
