The lecture and the reading passage both discuss about the revisionism in terms of historiology. In the lecture, however, the professor pejoratively warns the danger of the revisionist view due to its unscientific research and biased political view.
According to the given reading passage, revisionism is a type of historical view that balances the prevalent traditional stereotype due to certain political values in the past by re-examining the facts. As time progresses, society evolves and it needs an alternation of historical interpretation. For example, although many people acknowledge Christopher Columbus's discovery of American as a matter of fact, revisionists assert that the word, "discovery", is a Eurocentric view, which should be modified by using quotation marks around the word.
Nevertheless, in contrast to the claim in the reading that revisionism is imperative in historiology, the professor is in strong disagreement with the general revisionist view with his sarcastic tone. He insists that revisionists simply deny and negate the traditionally approved historical view with substandard research and partial political stance. Influencing uneducated and typical people by condoning the historical fact, they can be dangerous. To be more particular, the professor suggests a representative example of revisionists' view toward holocaust by Nazi. Despite the conspicuous fact and result of this horrible historical event, some revisionists argue that the holocaust has never happened. According to him, they "deliberately propagate" the false information without verifiable data and credible document.
