Among people there is an ongoing argument as to whether by watching television, people can learn much more than by reading books. Although some people might say that since a television has more advantageous aspects such as the visual efficiency and the quickness, getting knowledge from television is more efficient, as far as I know, nothing in the world is as best as a book in getting more detailed knowledge. it is the real learning with the help of books that provide people with real benefits. In this essay, I will briefly present two reasons to support my assertion.
First of all, the more you watch television, the more you may be exposed to distractions. To be specific, on TV, since there are a lot of channels that can give you pleasure, even if you watch TV with the intention of learning information, you might change the channel into other one. As from my experience, when I was 6th grades, I watched educational program on TV, however, whenever the program was boring, I often changed the channel into other one that can give pleasure to me. Consequently, watching TV will not be helpful to people due to such distractions.
Secondly, reading books on the purpose of learning a knowledge is more professional than watching TV. This is because, usually, while books deal with a topic in more depth, TV program deals a topic 1 or 2 minutes at best on screen. According to the Korea Ministry of Knowledge Economy, it is said that most people read a book when they need a detailed knowledge. Not only that, recently, it is found by a scientific research that, considering psychological aspects, people have a tendency to get a knowledge by imagining their own knowledge.
To summarize, thanks to these relialble facts and results, we can easily follow the claim that when finding a method between a book and television for the purpose of acquiring a detailed knowledge, we have to place the former before the latter. |
