In today’s world, some people advocate that schools should provide students with extensive knowledge on a variety of academic subjects. However, I firmly believe that schools should offer courses that can help students prepare for their future careers. The rationale behind this belief is that learning specific knowledge on certain jobs equips students with useful skills that can help them prepare for their future plans. On top of that, students become confident about their future.
To begin with, students can use their valuable time more effectively to prepare for future careers if they study subjects that are relate to specific occupations. This is because studying certain subjects related to specific careers prevents students from wasting their time working on unnecessary subjects. To cite a personal example, when I began my career as an engineer, I realized that the knowledge I learned in school was not useful to my job. Therefore, I really struggled at my job and had to go through a very tough time. Unfortunately, I was still not able to make heads or tails of my job even after I finished my internship. So, I had to go back to job training center to learn about more specific knowledge and skills about engineering. As a result, I spent two very valuable years in training that I could have avoided that if I had only been able to study only subjects that are related to engineering.
In addition, schools can provide a sense of security to students by giving them a clear direction about their future jobs. This is a crucial advantage for youngsters today as they tend to worry too much about their future. According to a recent research released by Trinity College, 80 percent of secondary school students are under extreme pressure about their future. They also said that students have experienced lack of confidence and motivation because it seemed like no matter how much time they spent studying, their future still remained uncertain. However, when they were allowed to take courses based on their future career – for example, if students are interested in science, they are likely to choose physics, chemistry, biology, and other science subjects- they became much more confident and positive about their future.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that it is much more beneficial for students to take courses that are related to their future jobs. The truth of this argument becomes clear when we consider that students can use their time more wisely, and also become motivated about their future by having practical knowledge. As what John F. Kennedy said, “Always fix your roof when the sun is shining”. Youngsters in the modern world should make sure they have a well structured future plan. |
