There are many people who argue that challenging new activities or field is a good way to enjoy passionate lives. However, from my point of view, people do not need to take risks by challenging themselves. Rather, they can achieve more by pursuing what they are really good at. This is mainly because it gives more chances of success and challenge requires too much sacrifices.
To begin with, people who stick to what they are good at are much more likely to succeed. Since individuals have unlimitted possibilities, if one tries hard enough, then he or she can reach an ultimate state. However, trying new things means starting from the beggining. Therefore, people can get much less sucessful results when challenging new thins even if they put same efforts with what they already do well. For instance, a well-known korean figure skater Youn-ah Kim pursued skating since she was a child. Even though she was already the best among children figure skater, she did not try to do something new but kept practicing it for higher and higher goals. As a result of it, she became a world champion.
In addition, people have to make several sacrifices to challenge new things. To challenge new experiences, people should spend much time and money and put efforts. However, these are not as easy as speak. One might reduce time spending with dear friends and should spend some money on tutoring or purchasing new equipment required for the new activities. Even more, as an old saying goes, no pains, no gains. For instance, my uncle lost his job while trying to be a singer. Even though he was already good at his job, he wanted to break his mundane cycle of life and started making efforts to become a musician at the expense of his job. Not only did he lose his stable income, but also he wasted his time because it is too late for him to challenge his life given the fact that he already has his family to support.
To sum up, I think it is better to pursue things what people are already good at than new challengable things because it could lead to success and demands many sacrifices. While a challenge can be a small deviation from a life, its opportunity costs should be fully considered.
