A lot of controversy exist over which is more efficient way of investing our government funds between exploring space and resolving current problems on earth. Many people argue that it is totally wasteful and indeliberate decision to invest the funds to the space businesses since there are still so many urgent problems on the earth. However, I think that this is a narrow point of view, ignoring the positive and tremendous potential of exploring the universe. This is not only because it can directly solve many problems of the earth by providing a lot of invaluable resources and raw materials, but also because through the space researches, significant inventions will be encouraged.
One benefit of exploring the space is that it can provide uncountable, valuable resources to the people. These include solar energy, new raw materials, and place where human race could live, and all of these are crucially related with the problems that currently we are suffering. To specify, recent research results in United States indicate consistently that by building a large array of solar panels in the space, for instance on the moon, we can obtain ten times larger energy than those built on the territory on earth. In addition, the research also indicates that by scientifically manipulating the new material which was discovered on the moon we can obtain twenty times more efficient energy than fossil energy. And there is a large amount of it on the moon. Likewise, exploring space would give us a lot of resources that could work as a key resolver of current problems on earth.
Furthermore, investing funds on aerospace business and research derivates innovation and invention. In order to conquest the space, we require a lot of advanced technology which we do not obtain yet. What we should focus on is the fact that the innovative inventions being born from aerospace investments will not only be utilized on the moon, but also it will work on the earth as a useful catalysis of other technology and business. To illustrate, you have probably heard of a texture called Gore-Tex which is being widely used in many functioning clothes including climbing wear, military wear, and other sports wear. This new texture with a variety of features such as water-protect, lightweight, and ventilation was not developed from the clothes industry, but it was a by-product made in the way of developing special wearing for astronauts. Considering that even excepting for the Gore-Tex there are many such cases that aerospace research results help many products in other industries, it is clear that investing funds to the space is not wasteful at all.
Inevitably, when it comes to the emergency of the current problems on earth, I could not deny admitting that we have to put the money to those areas as well. However, it is also clear that we cannot put all of our budgets to resolve only current earthly problems since we have to prepare the future of human being thriving in the long run, and I think investing funds into aerospace pioneering businesses and researches is just the appropriate way due to valuable and abundant resource acquired from the space and its propagating positive side-effect on other industries. Therefore, every nation especially those developed and scientifically and economically leading countries must not be reluctant to allocate enough budgets for the space businesses.
