My college major was Clothing and Textile, but I took some science classes ranging from basic physics to some advanced chemicals. First time when I knew that I had to take those subjects which seemed unrelated to my major, I could not understand why I should study those, but now I think that those courses were extremely necessary to my life as well as study. For one thing, I believe that some basic science information can help students to live more conveniently in this modern society. Also, since most academic subjects are mutually related, science knowledge helps students to learn their own major profoundly.
First of all, I think that some basic science knowledge is rudimentary to most students. Nowadays, people are faced with newly advanced technology every day. For example, many students use their own computer and cell phone. The more advanced computers or cell phones are developed by Apple or Samsung, the more confused people feel even though they welcome the new machines. Personally, I have a spate of expensive electric stuffs, such as an Apple’s Mac book, Samsung’s cell phone, and Amazon’s Kindle. Shamefully, however, I can use those machines only basic way. On the contrary, I think that more education about science can make student’s life abundant.
Also, I think that some science knowledge is significantly related to students’ own major. When I was in a college, I took several advanced chemical courses. Since I studied for textiles and fabrics, some chemical knowledge was really helpful in understanding my major even though my major was not relevant to be called science.
All in all, I agree with the idea that all university students should take basic science courses even when they are not planning on going into the field of science. Basic science knowledge can help students to enjoy their life more abundantly in this advanced society. On top of that, basic science knowledge is certainly necessary to study their own major much more deeply. |
