Exploring outer space could be quite appealing to countries as there is a variety of possibilities starting from developing space-related industries to finding a new place for humans' habitat. What's more, increasing investment on the exploration could be a boast of country's dominance on science technologies. However, no matter what benefits it has, it is more important for each country's government to spend money on basic needs on Earth. To specify this, government should use money to narrow down the gap between the wealth and the poor and protect the environment.
Governments should invest money on policies such as welfare programs to lessen the difference between the wealth and the poor. In most countries, especially amid the unprecedented economic crisis, the wealth is becoming wealthier while the poor is becoming poorer. In case of Korea, a survey conducted by Korean times has showed the sharp decrease of proportion of middle class. More than 10 percent of middle class has been newly labeled as low class while wealthy people are in same status. When it comes to Indonesia, due to corruption and loosely planned economic projects, almost 10 percent of people there do not have enough money to afford basic needs for life. In contrast, people in top 5 percent have money to sustain their luxurious lives. This sort of situation usually adds despair, sorrow and frustration to many people, which often results in fragmentation of society. In other words, more people would feel they are not happy. Therefore, rather than spending tremendous amount of money to exploration of space, governments should use money to narrow down the discrimination between the wealth and the poor.
Also, it is imperative for governments to invest money to protect the environment. Even though many people want to deny, the forest, the sea and other parts of nature have been devastated due to human's activities. For example, the U.N (United Nations) has declared that the forest is disappearing in a record rate. Approximately 40 percent of forest in Amazon has been burned out for agriculture or industrial development. Moreover, it is predicted that 30 percent out of remaining 60 percent of forest has possibilities to disappear in 20 years when the situation is same in the future. Hence, governments actually should make schemes to protect the nature, not lavishly spending the budget to space exploration.
In conclusion, it is necessary for governments to invest money on basic needs of Earth rather than using it for exploration of space as it is important to reduce the gap between the wealth and poor. In addition, they should also try as much as possible to preserve the nature. |
