All students have a same goal of obtaining an excellent grade from their work, however this is not easy. Only limited number of students get satisfying grades and the others usually become frustrated about their results of the work which they devoted themselves into. How does grading system influence students in their study? Even though many people maintain that this system only results in taking away students' enthusiasm, I firmly believe scoring actually encourages them to study more harder for several reasons.
Grades show where the students are. It seems like everyone studies as hard as they can and performs his own work thoroughly. Yet, this is not true. Since each one has his own different judging compass for his effort, everyone studies different amount of work. Without any general set point, individual students will just work until the point where they consider it is enough; this is likely to make them stand still. Therefore, by taking tests regularly, students will be able to figure out how much they have studied and where they are. Grades show their result of the work they have performed and without it, they will never try to magnify their potential abilities.
On top of that, grades can stimulate students to study more passionately by creating a competitive structure. Competing with other students whom each student consider as his rival will effectively motivates them to devote themselves more. Feeling the moment when a student achieves his goal which was once thought to be impossible is now possible by evaluating. Furthermore, there will be some individuals who become desperate due to their grades which are very disappointing. This sacrifice, however, is inevitable. Still, this experience can educate them to learn the most important lesson which is more valuable than gaining satisfying grades. Failure. Undergoing several failures and dilemmas, they will eventually learn to stand up again with their last strength and to fight toward their desirable goals over and over again.
Marks show students how they have worked enthusiastically and electrifies them to study. Student's duty is to study, but they also have their rights to enjoy their teenage life. I think it will be palatable for students not to be over-absorbed into studying. Studying is not all about life, but a part of life.
