▶ Your Answer :
It is debatable
whether children should play sports for fun rather than for competition. It is
an intriguing question because opinions concerning this issue can be different
depending on the individual perspectives. However, in my opinion, I strongly agree
with the statement for two reasons, which I will explore in the following
essay.
To begin with,
sports are for exercise and healthy body. A lot of parents let their children
join in sports team for their kids’ health. But if there is competition in
sports, children will get stress from the activity and also it results in bad
health. For example, there is a survey conducted by Found Research Center with
200 elementary P.E. teachers as respondents. The purpose is to understand their
thought about what is the primary goal of sports. Undoubtedly, 95% respondents
replied the major end of sports is exercise and they claimed that children got
a yon of stress with competition in sports. This proves that competition is not
the main reason for playing sports.
On top of that,
competition is not fair. Since, there is a wide range of size and strength
among children. Thus, even if smaller kids practiced more than bigger child,
the big child is more likely to win. I will give my cousin’s experience as an
example. When he was 12 year old, he started wrestling to strengthen his body
because he was much smaller than average. So he really exercised and practiced hard,
he went to gym every day. After 2 years, he participated in wrestling
competition but he lost against bigger kids who started the sports only 2weeks
ago. Come to think of it, it was not fair because of his effort.
To sum up, major
purpose of sports are to exercise and to improve health. Moreover, competition
is unfair because of various body sizes of children. In this regard, I definitely
agree with the statement that children should enjoy sports rather than compete
with each other.
