An ongoing debate exists over whether it is sometimes acceptable to infringe on people' freedom or not. Regarding this controversial issue, I strongly believe that people's freedom sometimes can be limited in cases of purposes for public interests and social order.
First of all, public interests outweigh over personal freedom. Although freedom of each person is important in this democratic society, it can not surpass the significance of public interets. There are sometimes inevitable situations in which personal freedom should be limited. For example, when government build public parks , or highways that can benefit majority of people, those people who possess a part of land that should be utilized in building are asked to sell lands to government. Even though it is also landlord's freedom to sell their properties, they feel unspoken pressure by other people and government and sell them for public interests. Likewise, there are lots of situations that public interests should be considered first and Ibelieve that people's freedom should be given up for them.
Secondly, it will be impossible for government to keep social order if it allows unlimited freedom to people. This is because society does not exist for one person. People's freedom should be regulated appropriately to create society which can equally guarantee everyone's freedom. To illustrate this, suppose that there is a society that has no law of limiting one's freedom. In this society, people can do whatever they want to do. Even though it sounds idealistic that people have unlimited freedom , it is obvious that this society soon collapse and people would not be able to live because the weak would lose all their freedoms , not to mention that the strong would take everything. In this sense , it is essential to limit people's freedom because it realizes social justification and keeps social order.
In sum up, I firmly believe that it is sometimes acceptable to limit people's freedom. This is not only for public interests, but also for social order. I think it is desirable to give up my freedom if it is for those purposes.
