University students should take classes in many different subjects.?
It is often said that university students should experience a lot fields in study. Some people may be opposed to this statement because they think university is the place which transfers professional knowledge to their students. However, it is important that students challenge many different subjects, since this helps students improve different skills and gives chance to meet different kind of people.
To begin with, different subject requires different skills. Therefore, by taking different fields of studies, you can equip yourself with various skills. The knowledge acquired in university would be useful to live in real world. From my personal experience, when I was a freshman, I take a lot of class about not only my major subjects but also economics including micro, macro, and game-theory. Studying economics taught me how to apply mathematics in the real world and model complicated phenomena. After graduation, I have a job to simulate and predict many social problems with computer. The skill trained in economic classes was greatly helpful whenever I try to deal with complicated phenomena.
Futhermore, taking different kinds of classes gives chance to meet many kinds of people. These encounters help students learn how to get along with others, which is needed to be successful. For example, before entering the university, I was a boy who lacks social skills. But as I meet many different people and interact with them, I was able to know how to mingle with others. After 1 year in university, I found myself open-minded and tolerant to other opinions. If it had not been for these chances, I would have not been able to get these personalities.
Therefore, because taking many different subjects provides students a chance to develop various skills and help them meet different people, I strongly agree that university students should attend a variety of courses. Once they leave college, it becomes less likely that they will have the same access to information and chance to meet diverse groups of people. Consequently, the time spent in college is the best chance one gets to explore a broad range of areas of study and foster social skills.
