Making reasonable decisions in life is always challenging. Since humans are so affected by numerous social factors, significant judgement are sometimes overwhelming. This is often why punishments sentenced from a crimial trial becomes a controversial issue of debate. People over decades have attempted to find the best way of resocializing criminals so that they can integrate into the society again. Educating them or sentencing them into prison is a way of preventing people from committing crimes. Many radicals may claim that death penality is also optional, but this essay will assert that prisoning criminals is the best known way to reduce crime in a society by providing two main reasons that should not be overlooked.
First, although educating those that have committed crime is important, it should be in line with prison sentencing. Education to resocilize criminals should function as a supplement that aids prisoners to be able to assimilate into the ongoing society again. What is more important is that the criminals, whether their committed crime is severe or not, should be uttery separated so that they have the time to repent their unlawful activities. They should be alienated from the society and from the victims by force so as to reduce chances of committing crime again. That is the main purpose of sentencing both the victims and the criminals safely. An example can be used here to further my explanation. In 2004, there was a criminal case when a person robbed a supermarket. Because he was considered young, he was not sentenced prison but instead was obliged to be educated. However, with his constant attempt to steel goods from the market, he was later sentenced to prison. By analysing this case, he had better been prisoned at the first place.
Second, punishment not only plays a role of sentencing criminals but is also a way of maintaing a stable society by representing social fear. This is because most people are afraid of being punished, especially being prisonsed because people are aware of the liabilities of being prisoned such as waste of life time and receiving criminal records that would catch them up eventually when they want to find a proper job. Being aware of these disadvantages that they would carry along their life, people live without commiting crime. Knowing the significant aftermaths of their thoughtless act would definitely prevent them from being engaged in criminal activities and also to be morally conscious before any act. It is true that punishments should not outweigh and violate one's civil rights, but it is certainly important in indirectly teaching citizens to avoid committing crimes.
Finally, inculcating ideas of good citizenship through cotinual education is an important in resocilizing criminals. However, the exiting prison sentencing that separates criminals from the society and that prevents further crime has huge advantage that should not be overlooked. |
