In the reading, there is an ample support for the author’s claim
that there are a few theories why the Roanoke colonists disappeared. However,
in the lecture, the professor gives several reasons as rebuttal to the author’s
point.
First, the professor contends that it does not make sense for
the settlers to have let colonists in with the fact that it is an island. To put it another this way, even the colonists tried to get into the land deeper, so natives would not have
liked to have them in their own area. This counters the reading passage’s suggestion

indicate that colonists lived in Croatan Island once.
Lastly, the professor insists that although there were many

from another ones who had settled before the colonists. Furthermore, colonists' appearance does not match with settlers’.
