▶ Your Answer :
The
given topic of whether teachers should not reveal their social or political
view in the classroom is a controversial issue. I agree with the given topic:
first, it is likely to become social problems. Second, students dislike teacher’s
social or political view.
To
begin with, revealing their social or political view in the classroom leads to
social problems. Generally, the teacher’s status is a official position. Thus, holding
a personal statement about social or political view would be dangerous. This is
because the view can represent overall teacher’s view. I will bring up my
personal experience as an example. When I was in high school, a history teacher
had often revealed his personal social or political opinions in the classroom. At
that time, a students uploaded his speech in the internet, so the teacher’s
view was spread our country. Although
his view was just his personal opinions, the view represented all teacher’s
view taking into consideration that a teacher’s status has official traits. Therefore,
his opinions were big issue, so that he ended up resigning his job. If he had
not revealed his view in the classroom, he would not have lost his job. The
same applies to most teachers like him.
On
top of that, if teachers converse their social or political view in the classroom,
students would dislike it. Usually, the most important thing for students is their
academic performances, so they want to learn useful skills to study not political
or social views of a teacher. Therefore, the teacher’s popularity will be
decreased if he keeps revealing his political
or social views. There are many articles which reaffirm my viewpoint. A few
weeks ago, I read an op-ed piece from the Korea Herald that was related to the
topic. It described the result of a survey, which was conducted by some
researchers with more than 100 students as respondents. The purpose of the
survey was to understand the consensus view that students are unwilling to listen
to a teacher’s personal political or social views. Of the 100 people, over 80
percent answered that they did not prefer a teacher who teachers reveal their
social or political view in the classroom. They emphasized that listening to a
teacher’s political or social views is a waste of time for them because they
are busy with many tasks. This clearly showed that students does not prefer teacher’s
political or social views.
In
conclusion, a teacher’s political or social view not only causes social problems
but also leads to reservation of taking the class. In this regard, I agree with
the given topic. |
