▶ Your Answer :
We all belong to families. They vary in
size - a small family with two parents with a child or a big family with three
generations living together. The extended family was a norm in the past but I
believe its importance is decreasing for the following reasons. (EXCELLENT INTRODUCTION)
First, the extended family is not necessary
in the current economy. The extended family was essential in the past when the
economy was mainly based on agriculture. A lot of human resources were needed to
maintain farmland. Therefore, people lived together with parents, aunts, uncles
and cousins because they all worked together on a farm. However, in the current
economy, most people work for a company and they are scattered all over the
country. For example, my workplace and my father's workplace are so far away from each other that we
cannot live together. So people live separately from other extended family
members in order to maintain their own job.
Second, people are busier with their own
lives than ever. Today's economy is so intertwined and participants are busy pursuing
their lives within the system. Therefore, people find it difficult to spend
valuable time with their families. It would be more difficult if they live with
grandparents because they would have to take care of more family members.
According to a recent poll, 70% of the interviewees answered they prefer to
live in small family groups because they are do not have time to take care of
other family members.
In conclusion, the extended family is not
as important as it was in the past for the above reasons. Today's economy has
changed our relationship with extended families and the norm of a family.
Family is still an important part of our life. But we need to accept that big
families are not essential as they were in the past.
