There might be some people who believe that scientists are responsible for their discoveries, if it has negative impacts. There are obviously many regarding this topic, but it is clear that they do not have to be responsible what they discover even though it has a negative impacts. The concepts of health and motivation clearly show the theme.
First of all, it is too stressful for scientists to ask responsible what they did. This is mainly because if scientists are force to do something they do not want to accept, they will feel like discovering for humankind is a waste of time and they become unhappy. This situation will scientists stressed out. In fact, stress is the primary factor of illnesses because it weakens the ability of the immune system in fighting diseases. For example, my uncle, a doctor in a general hospital in a city, often tells me that many of his patients suffer adverse health effect from stress. They come to him for stress-related ailments and disorders such as headaches, high blood pressure, and insomnia. Some of them who come to him are scientists who are stressed out due to criticism of negative impacts of their discoveries. One of his patients, a famous scientist in the world, said that even though it was about three and half years ago, he feels uneasy and uncomfortable to study after forcing a negative impact of his experiment. This situation eventually stress him out, and he still suffer adverse health effect. This means people should not ask scientists to be responsible for negative impacts that they discovered.
In addition, not to take criticism what they made negative impacts increase their motivation. This is due to the fact that if they are not force what they do they could become brave and confident. This can be a facilitator which motivates them to improve themselves. They will make more effort, concentrate better, and feel more responsible what they do. This can bring about better out come at study on their field. For example, my friend, a scientist in Japan, used to be negligent and lost interest in his job because at that time, Japaneses tended to ask them to be responsible for their experiment. However, after national policy on science field changed to prohibit to criticism them, he had changed little by little. He started to spend more time in the lab, and had an enthusiasm for study. He and other scientist said they do not have to care of anything they do, it made them to study more and felt free for invention.
In conclusion, it seems to me that scientists are not responsible for negative impacts of their discoveries. The concepts of health and motivation support the argument. |
