It
is pretty debatable whether we have to let children do household chores or not.
Meanwhile, I agree with the idea that making children participate in household
chores is conducive to them for the following reasons.
To
begin with, we have to help children to have responsibility to their own
behaviors through family education, and making them participate in household
chores can be the good solution. Household chores include washing dishes,
cleaning bathroom, doing laundry and sweeping desks. These all tasks are
dealing with consequences of our activities in the house. For example, we wash
dishes after a meal. Therefore, letting children participate in household
chores can teach them an important fact that all activities will make some
results and we have to take responsibility about them. For example, let's
assume that one child plays in his room and make things too messy, so his
parents let him clean the things. It would be too laborious for the young
child, but he might not play as he did anymore after the experience. In this
regard, I believe that letting children participate in household chores is
advantageous to them.
On
top of that, participating in household chores together can make family bonding
within each member. Many researchers assert that family bonding is crucial for
children's emotional, intellectual, and psychological development. Therefore,
the parents have to come up with the idea to make strong family bonding in
children's mind. In this regard, letting children participate in household
chores with parents can be truly helpful for this because all members have to
cooperate to do the chores. For example, parents can ask their children to
prepare napkins, spoons and forks on the table before a meal. If the parents
compliment children for their help, they might feel that they played an
important role in preparing the meal with parents. In other word, they can feel
that they are also important member of family, so the strong family bonding can
develop within their minds. In this context, I think parents have to make their
children participate in household chores.
To
sum up, not only can children have responsibility for their behavior by doing
household chores, but also letting children participate in the tasks will make
strong family bonding. Therefore, children should use their time to do
household chores. |
