▶ Your Answer :
The passage and the lecture both describes about consequences made by using fossils in commercial purpose to private. The passage argues that this is disadvantageous for scientists and general public. In contrast, the lecturer disagrees about this opinion. The reading passage mentions that selling fossils to a private buyer will make other people to have less opportunity to watch those fossils. Furthermore, since the people cannot see fossils easily, their interest about them will be also declined. However, the lecturer insists that more people will be able to watch the fossils when people can buy them. Because the institutes like schools and museums can also purchase the fossils, they can get more materials to show to public. Therefore, general people can see the historic data more often. The passage also declairs that the rich obtains most of the valuable and academically precious fossils. While the research institutes like museums and universities can use only limited amount of fund for buying fossils, they lose their chance to investigate those fossils. On the contrary, the lecturer argues that in order to identify the value of fossils, helps from scientists are needed. Therefore, scientists still do crucial roles on researching fossils, which does not means they cannot access to fossils. Lastly, the reading passage mentions that the private fossile collector are not advertent in preserving the entire fossile safe. So they often destroy and damage the fossils, which makes the fossile lose its value and important historic and scientific information. However, the lecturer argues that the fact that fossils are damaged is not important. She says that it is meaningful that thanks to those private digger, the more fossils are being discovered. As little amount of fossils are found by public institutes, those private collectors are helping them. Therefore, despite of damages the fossil got, the finding of fossils contributes to development of science. To sum up, the lecturer counters the argument made by the reading passage that selling and purchasing fossils in markets gives negative effects to researchers in academic institutes and general public, by giving the opinion that it is exaggerated. |
