Some people argue that people tend to make friends with those that are similar to themselves. Although this may be true, to some extent, I believe it is better to have diverse firends who are different than those who are similar to you.
First, because humans are social animals, we belong with others and learn from each other. We track for differences when conversing or spending time with others and imitate things that we think are good. In this process, we get to learn life lessons and enhance our personalities as well. For example, when I met my friend Joe at my university, I had a stereotype that medical students are all busy with studies and do not enjoy hanging out with others. In fact this was not the case. They are both good at studying but also play well and spend a lot of time in doing activities to relieve their stress play well to relieve stress.
Second, it is impossible to find friends that are exactly the same. We all have different personalities and preferences and therefore, we should understand that noone can be similar to themselves. It is rather better to acknoweldge the fact that friends are different from you and attempt to understand the differences. This, I believe, is a significant way of enhancing one's friendship and is also a way of building trust with one another.
Lastly, many can claim that it is exhausting when friends are significantly different to themselves. Neverless, I personally believe that we should understand the differences and learn from each other.
