High school students should be allowed to choose which subjects they will study. |
In modern society, it's widely controversial whether to allow teens to select the subjects they want to study. Although some critic might say that they do not have any abililty to find out what's importatant, I strongly believe that teens are capable enough to select what's really significant for them. This claim is because that studying the wanted subjects makes teens to study with full capacity and to prevent them from regarding they are wasting time.
Most of all, students tend to show great interests on the subjects that they really want to study. However, oppositely, they do not show much effort on the fields that they do not want to know about. Besides, it's very likely that teens will show off potential capacity when they study the wanted subjects. Simply, by pulling out the maximum ability inside, students will achieve the great success on the school works by focusing their whole efforts on the certain subjects they have great interest on. For example, when I was in 11th grade, my school inaugurated new policy about the school education. It allowed individual students to select the subjects they want to study. Because I had the great zeal on the science fields, I decided to take only physics, chemistry and calculus. By focusing my interests and efforts on the wanted field of study, I developed my potential capacity on the science field and increased my GPA remarkably. From the example, I was convinced that students are likely to show their all ability and efforts when they study something they have great desire.
In addition, studying the subjects that are not related to the major is wasting time. For people who major science, it's wasting time to study subjects such as history. Also, it's nonsense that someone who is willing to be an athlete takes language courses. Besides, the importance of the high school education is preparing individuals to prepare for the expertise information that they will learn in the university. Therefore, for the concern of the future and the further education, high school students should know what they will major and focus their whole efforts on the certain subjects they have interest. Moreover, studying subject without much desire gives no benefit teens. For example, when I was in high school, I decided to be a scientist. However, the school policy definitely points out students should take variety of subjects. Studying certain subjects that I had no zeal was negative to me. Furthermore, I lost my interest on studying. Simply, I felt that I was wasting my life time on something valueless and worthless. From the example, I learned that teens usually regard studying subjects is same as wasting their times and efforts.
To sum up, I strongly support the claim that teens should be allowed to select the subjects they will study. In order to bring the maximum effort of students and to prevent their feeling of wasting times, the government should change its policy to give more freedom of selecting subjects.
