Poverty and Inequality in the South: Should the Developed North Increase Aid to the Developing South?
There always has been poor people, whereas there are wealthy people. In case of countries, it is not an exception. A research on how many poor people die each day has stated about 12 millions. Treatable malaria has not only killed many innocent lives of Africa, but also has cut the economic strength of Africa by half. People who live their lives by only 65 cents a day are begging on the street for more money. Now, people of the developed North have to decide whether they should give more financial support to the developing South or not. There are a couple of positions about this argument: one who are for the financial support and others who are against it.
People who are in favor of the North's financial support name several reasons. One of important reasons is that the North can ignore the South's poverty no more. The South is already in the level of decaying by its ward-heeling politics, misallocation of its limited resources, and extinct economic growth. If the North increases its aid, the South will be able to fix its treatable situations such as increasing the medical examination and treatment to the sick people. Therefore, the money of North is urgently necessary for the South.
Second, people of the South are worrying about the circumstances that poverty and inequality contribute to terrorism. People who attack other rich people in order to accomplish their political purpose, also called terrorists, are generally poor people. One significant reason why the terrorists attack people or buildings is that they have a hostile feeling, which we call animosity, against rich people. Terrorists usually consider that their country is in a big trouble because the financiers of wealthy countries refuse to help them, or if those financiers give their hand, they tend to encroach the domestic markets in their sleeves. When financially supported, terrorists will stop to attack people. Thereupon, if only the poverty and hunger are solved, then the economy and public security will be very stable.
However, on the other hand, there are these people who strictly disagree to the North's increasing aid. They have an accurate insight to the truth that money cannot just solve everything. Of course, money will save the people of the South. However, it will only solve people's basic need. If the money runs out, people will be hungry again, and inevitably expect another money from the North. In other words, what is really necessary to the South is the infrastructure to systematically govern and work for administrative tasks. Without any infrastructure to make things operate well, it is hard to expect the South to become independent and pay back for all the debts.
Furthermore, the North needs to confirm about whether the South has a decisive thought about becoming independent or not. The South's poverty, hunger, unstability of the public peace are the main problems which should be quickly solved. but still, they are up to the South itself, not other countries. Moreover, the most important thing to the South is to notice the way of establishing themselves, and money takes a little part of it. Their decisive mind of self-independence is a key to solve poverty, hunger and so on.
Instead, the North can change their way of helping. It can teach the poor people how to use the money efficiently instead of just giving money to them. For example, the South can send their students to the North, initiated in the secrets of technological industry. The South will be able to establish their own technology corporations with these students. Of course, the North pays all the expenses. This will keep both's good international relationship, and also, it will maintain the South's national self-respect.
Helping the South by teaching skills can also prevent hiding money. I have seen many people of exalted rank on television getting put in jail by their secret hoards. Most of them are from poor countries. There is no such committee of inspection, so it is easy to those people to hide money. This is usually the major concern of the North when they consider sending money to the South. Besides, the North is not sure about the way South government uses money. Accordingly, teaching South's people some techniques of the North can prevent those disgraceful affairs.
In summary, the North should help the South, not just by giving money, but giving them technical supports.
