▶ Your Answer :
The lecturer argues that the probable reasons are wrong to explain
the stranded whales. This contradicts the reading passage’s claim that these strandings
happen because of the reasons However the reading passage contradicts by claiming that the reasons are not appropriate.
First,
the lecturer argues that wind patterns are inaccurate reason of the stranding.
This is because the whales on the eastern sides are away from the land because
of the wind patterns from the west. So, this cannot account for the reason of the
eastern whales’ stranding. This casts the doubt on the reading passage’s claim
that it is possible that whales are stranded due to wind patterns.
Next,
the lecturer points out that the illness of whales does not explain the healthy
whale’s stranding. When the whales come ashore, volunteers make them back to
the ocean. Then the healthy whales can go back by their own power. This counters
the reading passage’s claim that whales may become stranded because they are coming
ashore because of their disease.
Finally,
the lecturer claims that the disoriented whales is are not caused by the geological
features of certain coastlines. This is because just some whales have a problem
with sonar beams and most of the whales have similar sonar systems. So, it cannot
be a main reason for the stranding. This refutes the reading passage’s claim
that geological features cause the stranded whales.
