▶ Your Answer :
Some people think that students can improve
their debating skills and become interested in our society by being exposed to teachers’ opinions on
social and political issues in class. However, I am firmly of the view that
students should not be exposed to teachers’
thoughts on social and political problems in class. I will firstly argue that
it interrupts developing students’ opinions to be
exposed to their teachers’ opinions. Furthermore, I will suggest that teachers’
opinions might be based on incorrect opinion.
Predominantly,
teachers expressing their opinions make it hard
for students to have their own thoughts. Students can think they are being taught
by teachers because teachers have always instructed them. Also, since most
students are young and not interested in politics and society, they do not have
their own subjective views. As a result, students are likely to just accept
teachers’ opinions. For example, my teacher said that our president did not
care about national problems such as reunion of the North and South Korea and exports and
criticized the president. Since then, I have just agreed with the statement
undoubtedly.
Additionally,
teachers do not always provide correct information. Just like other people,
most teachers have not studied fields related to
society and politics, and they get information from the media. The media
sometimes shows wrong or biased information. For instance, in 2016, news that the
president of Korea reached an agreement with Japan about reparations for the comfort
women abused during the Japanese occupation of Korea spread through the mass
media. Since it was a serious and critical problem, people blamed the
government. However, it turned out to be a rumor.
In conclusion, I have strongly
argued that it influences students negatively to be exposed to teachers’ views on
social and political issues in class. To begin with, I suggested that it
restricts developing students’ own thoughts. Moreover, I highlighted that
information teachers gain is not always true.
