There have been dissenters to the opinion that most people want others to make choices for them. However, I totally agree with this idea as almost every person wants to be less responsible for the results of the decision and thinks that others have far more information than themselves.
To begin with, people are usually afraid of burdening the responsibility for their decisions. Final results which are led by the decisions would be attributed soley to themselves if they make decisions by their own. In contrast, if the decisions are made by others, they would be less burdened to their results especially failures contributing them to the one who made decisions instead. I would like to give an example of myself to elucidate this concept. My friend, who was in her year as a sophomore, was preparing to study abroad and had to choose which colleges to apply. She asked me for assistance of making choices and also mentioned that she is afraid she has to be responsible for the results by her own. Consequently, I had to choose which colleges she would apply and she followed my decisions. This experience demonstrates that people are afraid of being solely taking responsibilities.
On top of that, people delude themselves that they are less informed than others. To be specific, people consider others to have helpful information needed to make decisions more than themselves. People frequently try to get advice from others owing to this thoughts. This concept is clearly supported by the recent poll conducted by Korean Stastistics Office. This survey was done with 1000 people with respondents to figure out the consensus view of people whether they really consider others to be more informed or not. An overwhelming 89% of them responded that they surely do.
To sum up, many people think that having others make decisions for themselves may let them free from soley taking responsibilities for decisions and reflect more information of others. In this regard, I firmly believe that most people do not want to make decisions by themselves.
