As civilization evolves, encroaching on people's freedom is controversial. Many of us value an individual's freedom and believe such to be so important that to tamper with it in any way causes great injury. However, in my opinion, in certain cases it is acceptable to restrict an individual's freedom. Such restriction can achieve national and local and personal or social goals, as well as protect an individual's rights and privileges. To begin with, despite my thought that we need to protect all individuals' freedom, I believe it should sometimes be controlled. It allows nations to accomplish security and development goals. For example, agencies such as the CIA or the FBI in the United States perform a variety of tasks that aid national security, promote national interests and provide scrutiny of suspicious or illegal activity. At times, telephone wires are tapped or hidden cameras are set in private spaces to achieve these goals. We should understand also that every freedom does not have the same priority. To give you an idea, here is my story. These days, in public places such as theaters or art galleries, we are asked to turn off our cell phones. However, one day, I went to the theater with my friends and while we werewatching the movie, some viewers did not turn off their cell phones. The ringing phones and conversations interrupted our watching the movie and were annoying as well. They surely had the right, or freedom, to leave the phones on, but by doing so, they infringed on other's enjoyment and their rights to watch the movie in a polite atmosphere. Theater managers require us to turn off cell phones to protect everyone's freedom. As the saying goes, "Man is a social animal." Human beings do not live in isolation, but survive through interaction with other humans. Therefore, we should consider and respect each other's freedoms and privilege. If everyone pursues "freedom," per se, regardless of polite exchange or priority, our social norms will fall into disorder. - 이 글의 출처는 제가 아닌 저를 믿고 보내주신 한 네티즌님의 글을 첨삭한 것입니다... |
