Turning on the television, we can see a variety of advertisements at the intervals of programs. Some people might favor those ads saying that they can get recent information of certain products fast and with ease. In opposition to this point, I strongly argue that the main purpose of advertisement is to encourage people to purchase items they do not want. The reasoning behind this includes exaggeration, famous models, huge budge on marketing.
Above all, many products are described exaggerated through advertisement. This is because companies want to attract more people in order to obtain more profit. They do anything to make their articles seemingly good, such as emphasizing one prominent function and shedding colorful lights on items in an attempt to look more beautiful. For example, I bought an MP3 player last month. The advertisement said that it has various remarkable functions, attractive color choice, and small size. However, I found that it has similar functions of other products, and the color was totally different from what I had seen it from ads. Moreover, the size was small but too thick to carry in my pocket. Judging from my experience, ads are often exaggerated in order to motivate people to buy products.
In addition, most of advertisements cast famous entertainers and actors for models. Many psychologists argue that most people, especially teenagers, have a strong desire to follow celebrities in an effort to be looked like them. For instance, my younger sister, who is crazy about the famous singer Britney Spears, buy many clothes and accessaries which the singer once wore in a television advertisement. She has spent a fortune purchasing those products, and does not seem to stop doing that. In this respect, ads frequently use famous people to make customers squander money on items.
Finally, many companies pay too much attention to marketing strategy. They usually spend most of their annual budge on making advertisements, never set aside enough money to enhance the quality of their products. We can see this tendency of companies through the news that many consumers file a suit against corporation to show their complaints and dissatisfaction with products. Recently, a substantial number of cars, which were produced by one of the famous car-making companies, "Hyundai", has been recalled because of critical deficits of the cars. Although the car was also advertised as a latest and cutting-edge modern car of the year, but now I cannot find those ads anywhere on television and radio. This fact clearly shows that companies tend to funnel most of their funds into advertisement, not into the quality improving.
To sum up, I firmly believe that modern people are always tempted to buy many items they do not need because of advertisements. This is because ads are often exaggerated, use only popular people, and producers spend substantial money on marketing. On the whole, companies will continue to make advertisements more attractive to catch more attention from people and to grab more money on their hands.
