alternative medicine VS conventional medicine |
There are ongoing debates whether alternative medicine can be a good substitute for conventinal medicine or not. Some people argue that alternative medicine is not scientific approach and choosing these treatments such as needle therapy and herbal remedy is not recommendable choice because they are not based on objective scientific research and experiments. However I believe that alternative medicine have its own value and we can rely on it in the case when conventional treatments are difficult to pactice.
The alternative medicine, first of all, adopts different method of approach from conventional one. The conventional medicine tend to analyze the cause of illness by investigating the symptoms and organism using biological approach and tries to cure by physical surgery or chemically synthesized drugs. However the alternative medicine, specifically oriental medicine, tries to look overall environment surrounding the sick people rather than focusing on particular spots. With these different viewpoint, the alternative medicine might give an answer to the unsolved questions about cancer or AIDS which modern conventional medicine has not yet cleared up.
Secondly, there are cases that conventional treatment is not available and hard to implement. Some people may feel extremely scary about physical surgery and also others may show negative reaction toward artificially processed pills. On the contrary, the alternative medicine's main treatments are almost done by just needles and natural herbs. They are not very dreadful and cause little aversion because they are made from nature. My grandmother, for instance, was suffered from back-sickness. Because of her old age, surgery was dangerous for her. However, with the help of needle practice and herbal therapy, she could recover from illness and now she is very healthy and happy.
In these sense, the alternative medicine is good viable option for patient. Of course, excessive dependence on solely alternative treatment is not a good idea. Nonetheless, the alternative medicine has its merit.
