Do you agree and disagree with the following statement? Exams encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. |
If wanting students to more learn, motivation to have students study is necessary. Although some people believe that tests are undesirable, I strongly agree with the statement that students could improve their ability to study through exams. Before taking exams, most students review their class for preparing the tests, and verifying their score is one of the best ways to stimulate them to study harder. First of all, preparing the exams enables students to spend a lot of time and more effort reviewing their class. One of the researches about learning says that if people review knowledge they studied, they could understand this knowledge better and remember it longer. If exams do not exist, how many students study again contents they learned? For example, when I was a high school student, one of my friends did not understand a theory in Geology class. However, he did not try to see the theory and he forgot it soon. When preparing the final exam, he studied the theory again and he endeavors to understand it. Eventually, he could know it and explain it better than any other student. It is sure that the final exam taught him it. Besides, the score, result of a test, motivates students to learn harder. If students get low score, most of them try to learn harder to increase their score. As getting good score, most of them, also, study harder because they feel interested. To illustrate this point, when I was a junior in college, I got bad score in a midterm of one of my major subjects. So, in order to recover my grade in this class, I strived to pay attention to lectures and review every class. As a result of this effort, in the final, I got a good grade in this class. In conclusion, I think exams help student try to learn more because of reviewing their class for preparing the tests and students’ score’s encouraging students study harder. If exams were not, many students may not try to learn harder. |
