Many people tend to believe what celebrities said because they are commonly considered clean and trustworthy. In contrast to this, we have to cast doubts on the words of famous people because they usually try to hide some unpleasant facts, focus on improving their image, and exaggerate some facts.
More than anything else, famous people frequently try to distort and cover certain matters. This is commonly seen when those matters are closely related to their private life, which encourages stars to make lies to conceal them. For example, a few weeks ago, one of the popular woman athletes, Marion Jones, was arrested because of drug use before she took part in athletic competition. The attorney and herself continuously told us that they were innocent and the news was not true. However, the drug use was turned out to be real, and finally, she made a confession. This recent example clearly shows that we cannot always rely on the words out of celebrities.
Next, famous people also make many comments, considering their public image. It seems that they are very positive, decent, and clean individuals, when we listen to what they are saying through mass media. They are doing those behaviors in order to get good reputation from the public. To illustrate, when I met a really famous actor in Korea, I asked him for an autograph. To my surprise, he just ignored my favor, and even swore toward me when I kept asking. Since he had been portrayed as a splendid and polite man in the television program, I was very shocked. Judging from my personal experience, many popular people have a big contradiction between when they are shown in mass media and when in real life.
Finally, some entertainers exaggerate many facts in order to curry favor with other people. Since they are supported by many patrons, such as companies, hotels, and other businesses, famous people are often flattering them in an effort to bring more profits to them. For instance, there is a very popular television program which deals with many cuisines in Korea. After a korean restaurant was highly recommended from the announcers of the program, many people visited the restaurant in an attempt to enjoy seemingly delicious food. However, the ingredients of the food were very poor and so were the taste. A recent newspaper article revealed that the korean restaurant was one of the supporters of the cuisine program and its entertainers and thus they got a chance to be broadcasted easily, even though the food was so terrible. This astonishing fact obviously strengthens my opinion that undesirable exaggerations are commonly made by entertainers as well as television programs.
To sum up, I firmly believe that we should not always think the comments of famous people as truths. The rationale behind this is that they hide, inflate many facts and only concentrate on conveying positive image of their own. All in all, most celebrities do not hesitate to make deceptive comments in order to survive this money-driven society.
