When playing games, many people want to win because they believe that it will give them fulfillment. While this is partially true, always-winning does not guarantee interesting and exciting games. The reasoning behind this is that focusing on winning often brings up unpleasant situation. Additionally, always-winning games not only discourages the players but also are boring to the audience.
Suppose a soccer team who always seeks for victory. If they can grab trophies as many as possible, they will do anything such as cheating and even violence. The Europe Soccer League can best illustrate this point. As we all know, there has been countless bloody games throughout the history of Europe Soccer. Many players were forced only to win, and thus they did not hesitate to do violence on the other teams for their victory. Surprisingly, there was a serious war which was triggered by the conflict between two soccer teams in North America. The war caused many people to be dead and injured, leaving indelible scar on their history.
In addition to that, if just one competitive team continuously win, there will be no motivation for it to improve its skills. The members of the team will not be inclined to practice and struggle to enhance their ability, because they already achieved what they wanted to, "goals." For example, throughout history, many nations and kingdoms have been collapsed after they unified their continent and reigned over other tribes. To be specific, Genghis Khan, who ruled a vast area ranging from Asia to Europe, lost his country after his death. Since, his sons already fulfilled their dream to expand their territory, there was nothing to encourage them to keep trying. This historical fact clearly shows that if people do not lose and always win a game, they will not improve their aptitude, resulting in destruction of themselves.
Finally, watching predictable games are also boring to audiences. It is natural for human to expect unanticipated results, which give them more exciting and feverous feelings. For instance, throughout the world, professional wrestling, WWF, is attracting more and more people. The way that sport entertains audience is quite interesting. All of the players in WWF make up a story, who wins and who loses, and play their games as the story goes. Because of this basic storyline, there will be never one player who always wins, making people more excited. In this respect, it is undoubtful that sometimes your losing games can spice up the competition, tempting more people to come.
To sum up, I firmly argue that too much focusing on win is disadvantageous because it can lead to a tragedy. Also, losing games sometimes will encourage players to endeavor more, and make people excited. All in all, I believe that we have to find the true meaning of game, 'entertainment' in the process, not in the result.
