Many people say that friends have the biggest influence on
teenagers or young adults. I agree with this statement. First, friends are whom
they spend most of their time with, and second, they belong to the same age
group.
To begin with, when people spend most of their time with a
specific group of people, they tend to know almost everything about one another
and each other’s message in the group tends to have a greater effect than
someone else saying it. For instance, there was a case in my school when
teachers discussed to the students about academic honesty, however, students
did not pay full attention to the discussion and did not consider the
seriousness of this issue. However, few weeks later, one of our friends made a
poor choice and had a consequence of speaking in front of the class and
confessed what she has done and the importance of academic honesty. When she has
spoken in front, there was a different effect from the audience. We came into realization
of how serious the issue is and because the message was delivered through our
friend, we took the message more seriously compared to when the teachers talked
about it.
In addition, when people are grouped into their age, they
tend to understand each other more than being grouped with other age group
people. This is because people in similar age group know what is feels like to
go through different obstacles because they grew up in the similar environment.
For example, one of my friends said that when the he was studying for his final
exam, his friends gave him the biggest support. When he asked his professor for
clarifications, the professor was too busy that he could not answer all his
questions. However, when he approached his friends, not only did his friend
answer his questions, but also gave tips on studying for the exam. As a result,
my friend was able to score high in the final exam.
To sum up, a lot of adults say that friends are the most
important and most influential people that will be around you when growing up.
I think that this is true because not only they are people who are around you
most of your adulthood, but also, your friends are people who understand about
one another the most because they belong to the same age group. Therefore, I believe
that one of the most important factors in one’s life is to make friends.
