Many people wonder whether the news media delivers a realistic source of unbiased information to the society. I disagree with this idea because news wants want to gain more audience and the government can control what information they want to send out to the public. To start off To begin with, the news tends tend to be biased when it tries they try to gain more audience, therefore the news focuses focus on what the majority of the population finds interesting and leaves out the less important issues. For example, during the Winter Olympic held which was held in South Korea, a news broadcasting station in South Korea, KBS, focused its news mainly on the result of the Olympic games because that was what everyone was interested on in. However, it wasn’t only the Olympics that were going on was not the Olympic that was held, but also there were political issues such as the issue of President Lee, and there was barely any news about this situation. As a result, this case shows that news tends tend to follow what the majority of people are interested on and leaves out the less interesting issues.
Next, the information that are sent out is sent out by the news media are is often controlled by the government, therefore, becomes biased by filtering out information that the government does not want the people to know where the information is biased from the government. For instance, 7 years ago, there was a nuclear disaster in Japan and there was an enormous amount radiation exposure amount of radiation exposure. Now, the government claims that the level of radiation in Japan is considered as safe and any news medias are prohibited from reporting information about the level of radiation. As a result, this led every new media in Japan to report the level of radiation as safe and that people should not worry about it. However, in 2018, a YouTuber found out that the level of radiation is considered deadly to living creatures and citizens should evacuate the place instantly. However, because of the control that the government had over the news media, the news media were forced to report false information. This case clearly shows that with the control of government, news media tends to deliver biased information. Ultimately, I believe that news media do not deliver unbiased information to its audience because of the increase of number of audience it wants to have and the power of government has over the news media. Thus, when people are reading information on any news platforms, they should reconsider its source and information.
