The prompt says that providing students with grades promotes learning. Some people would disagree with this statement because it would make a too competitive environment in school. However, I strongly believe that this environment would drive students to concentrate on learning. Therefore, I agree with the statement. When teachers provide students with grades, it would be a strong motivation for them to study hard. Students have a natural desire to surpass others. Therefore, if teachers inform their students’ overall grades to them, they would spend more time studying to exceed other students’ grades, and consequently their academic performance would be enhanced. For example, many research teams, including Tokyo Research Center, analyzed data from two groups of young adults in a high school. One group consisted of those who had been informed their mid-term exam scores by school, and the other group was made up of those who had not. Interestingly, the first group was more likely to have a higher score on the final exam. Moreover, the former group showed a higher attention span in their classes and a stronger passion on their academic work. These results were attributed to the fact that the competitive educational environment made in the first group encouraged students to study hard. For the reason I have mentioned above, I assert that providing students with grades would be beneficial to students. On and on, the importance of the competition cannot be totally overlooked in school. |
