Topic: Most advertisements make products seem much better than they really are
In today's complex society, advertisement has become one of the most volitale issues that need to be addressed. Some people say that many advertisements only focus on their product's positive side whereas they purposely ignore their negative side. As for me, I also strongly agree with the idea that today's advertisements only try to stress their positive impact so that consumers are provoked to believe those products are better than they really are.
To begin with, they emphasize only positive effcets of their products by showing what would happen to them when they use their products. For example. in alcohol drink commercials, we can often see people are having a great time at party while all of them are drinking the same beer. It seems to appeal to consumers that by having their drink, people enjoy their lives and look so much happy. However, it is virtually impossible to see a person who became addicted to alcohol, and he warns about excessive drink, in any of those commercials. In this respect, it is safe to say that advertisements intentionally ignore the negative effects of their products, but show only positive effects of their products, thus making people believe their products will bring them happy lives.
In addition, many advertisments exaggerate their original quality. In other words, they bascially cheat consumers to think that the products will give them whatever they desire. To illustrate, in any health supplementary food commercials, they often present before&after pictures of people who previously used the products. However, we can see a great difference between two photos. In before photo, we can see that a subject has a sad face as if it suggests that s/he is in a bad mood. In contrast, in after photo, we can see a suject is full of smiles and usually has a bright background. Because of this technique, consumers may think that the the subject's life is completely changed by using the product. As this instance reveals, many advertisements use other methods to boast their effectiveness.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that modren advertisments make consumers believe their products have a great quality than they really are. It is clear when we consider the factors, such as they only attempt to highlight their positive effects, and also they convey information which is not true in many occasions.
