Do you agree or disagree to the following statement? Movies tell a lot about a country. Use specfic reasons and examples to support your answer. |
As people watch movies frequently, they are likely to encounter a variety of films that are produced in different parts of the world. Films from different countries each show unique styles of production, story, and sentiment. When a plot of a movie takes place in the country it was made, it could surely tell a lot about the country, such as the basic semblance, the history, and the economy of the country.
Firstly, a movie tells the basic feeling and semblance of a country. As the background of the movie is the country, people could observe the basic lifestyle of the people, the general aspects of the country, and the people's culture. For example, if a movie took place in China, the general appearance of the people and the buildings in the film could give vague information about China's cultural aspects. From the dialogues, one could even grasp an idea about the life there.
Also, one could learn a brief history of the country from a movie. The plot or the dialogues of a Chinese movie might insinuate, for instance, that the Sui dynasty unified China in 589 A.D., or that the Tang dynasty started in 618. A historical movie would especially teach people about a country's history, and perhaps some detailed information about an incident.
A movie could also tell a lot about a country's economy. The semblance of the people and the surroundings reflects how wealthy the country is. If the background in a film showed nothing but dry fields and famished people, one could easily imagine that the country is extremely poor. The condition of a country is thus revealed easily in any film.
Of course, even if one could assume a lot about a country from movies, he or she should not develop prejudices. Some facts might be exaggerated. However, it should not be dismissed that movies do tell a lot about a country.
