It is more important for a teacher to try to help students to gain self-confidence than to teach them specific knowledge. |
à I agree with the idea that teachers are better to help students to gain self-confidence than to teach them specific knowledge. Self-confidence is an attitude which allows individuals to have positive yet realistic views of themselves and their situations. I think that it is better to spend time on helping students to gain self-confidence than teaching specific knowledge. à First, specific knowledge can be taught not only by teachers but also by other sort of resources. Students can learn specific knowledge through internet or books. In addition to that specific knowledge is so changeable that once it had a great mean to students, later it can be meaningless to them. However, self-confidence is generally formed by interaction between parents or teachers. And when it once gained, it seldom changes or disappears. Self-confidence plays an important role in accomplishing difficult task that students have ever met before. à Second, specific knowledge may be interesting to some specific students but other students may not. Common sense tells me that it is difficult for teachers to teach students all kinds of fields that students are interested in. I believe that self confidence is usually formed during students’ school ages. If they spend their precious time on learning specific knowledge, they are loosing their chances to gain self confidence forever. After graduating from school, they have fewer chances to recover it. It is obvious that there are many chances to be taught specific knowledge after their graduation. |
